Montana by Char Fitzpatrick

This was a demonstration piece on how to paint clouds by outlining them with the blue of the sky, so that the white of the paper creates their shapes. I sometimes like odd dimensions for my work.  The clouds were marvelous in this scene, so I painted a panoramic view. They don't call Montana "Big Sky Country" for nothing!

Custom Pet Portraits - Jessup

Watercolor and gouache

Jessup was a delightful and impish Corgi puppy. Young newlywed friends wanted to give a portrait of Jessup to the bride's parents as a 'thank you' for all they had done for them. I tried to capture the heart-tugging endearingness of Jessup, and later heard that "grandpa" was very pleased with the portrait.

Zinnias by Char Fitzpatrick

I love zinnias. They have intense colors and distinct petal patterns. In this instance, I had a nice old white vase that appeared gray next to the spray of zinnias. Zinnias are a happy summertime flower. I often turn to painting flowers when I just want to paint with abandon.

Robin by Char Fitzpatrick

American robins are actually thrushes. The England version, smaller and delicately colored, is the true robin. I like to demonstrate to my students the necessary control of blacks, grays and whites in the eventual learning of color.
